I know the phrase goes, “the struggle is real”, but it truly is REAL sometimes. You get so down in the dumps sometimes it feels like no matter how much liquid courage, whether coffee or vodka, you have there’s no moving you forward. Without fuel there’s no fire, so how do you get that spark back?
1 | Grab a motivational book
Whenever I’m feeling like I’m failing at life as an entrepreneur, I read a chapter from “You are a Badass at Making Money” and it immediately lights a fire under my ass to hustle! While money isn’t always a motivator for everyone, it is for me. I don’t define my success by making money, but if I’m making money, I’m doing something right!
2 | Listen to a podcast
Podcasts are the hip new talk radio. Remember when your mom used to listen to KFI and you wanted to stab your eyeball out? Welcome to age and wisdom sister, podcasts are our KFI. But, they provide in my opinion a shit ton more value! I’m usually into the more murder, law and order type podcasts BUT I have recently discovered a few that provide some epic guidance!
- GoalDigger by Jenna Kutcher
- Babes & Babies (for all my Mama’s)
- Women, Work & Worth
Just a few that add a little something extra to my days when I’m feeling low.
3 | Take a walk
I know this sounds so cliche and that working out solves all your life problems. Endorphins and bullshit, but k, real talk… THAT SHIT WORKS. Sometimes you just need to walk around the block blasting some Beyoncé to get your groove back for the day or even the week! I’m not talking about walking in the gym, get out in nature, take in the textures of the scenery and get some fresh air on your face. My favorite work life hack of all time? Taking a walk during my lunch break to just decompress. It’s like a mini vacation from the grind, and especially critical if you commute!
4 | Beyoncé or Bust
To exaggerate on my previous point of blasting some Queen Bey, I highly recommend making a playlist with some of your favorite jams. That feel good music that makes you smile. My faves:
- Walking on Sunshine by Aly & AJ (yes I know, not the original, but please let my millennial Disney channel fanatic heart LIVE ITS BEST LIFE)
- Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga
- Alive by P.O.D
- Hold On by Wilson Phillips
- Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi REMIX
- Send the Pain Below by Chevelle
- Cheerleader by Omi
- We Built This City by Starship
- My Own Worst Enemy by Lit
- Africa by Toto (its the anthem okay?)
While this is just a fraction of my get up and go list, there’s so many great playlists on Spotify!
5 | Detox
Sometimes you have to start from the inside and detox! Whether you do a juice cleanse, whole 30, or go vegan for a week; mental clarity and brain fog starts from within. I love doing the Nektar 3 day juice cleanse when I’m feeling extra bogged down and just BLEH. I know when my insides are toxic, my work is trash.
Can’t detox? Drink some water!! & I mean, a shit ton of fricken water!
Being pregnant the pregnancy brain is SO REAL. I mean, can’t finish my stench sometimes REAL. Between limiting myself to 1 cup of coffee per day, and struggling with natural growing fatigue, I had to find something that works! I started drinking 101 oz of water daily! & while the trips to the bathroom are a plenty, I feel so good! Sometimes I add some lemon, others I add some liquid IV, and I even get switch it up to my fave Lemon La Croix.
Listening to motivational podcasts have been a great help! It’s amazing how other’s stories and struggle can motivate us to work harder and not lose hope.
This is so helpful, I love listening to podcasts and reading really motivates me too!
I love these! Listening to podcasts always gives me an extra boost of motivation.
Girl, I needed to read this. You read my homework angst post, so you know part of my struggle right now. These tips are so on-point and I’ll definitely utilize them not only for me but for my kiddo, as well. Great read!
I am so glad this helped you!!
I agree so much and have just begun the whole re-motivation process myself. Sometimes you just do need that break from the routine, but then do whatever is necessary to – hopefully – come back stronger than ever.
These are great I love the Beyonce Reference!!! I’m actually starting a Detox this week!
Having a walk always helps me get motivated and inspired!
Yep, there is no alternative to be motivated continuously in order to climb to top of success, but sometimes we lost the way then we need to take the dose of re-motivate and yes your ideas are very initiative, thank you for the tips.
