Everyone wants to tell you their quick and easy tips but have you ever heard of semaglutide? Now I am not saying it is a magic juice but GWORL, this is the juiceeee! After struggling with PCOS related weight gain after getting off Nuva Ring in 2016, I have tried everything under the sun to treat my PCOS. We all know of the typical treatment option of metformin and birth control. But what if I told you that there is something better out there? Bring in Semaglutide or better known as Ozempic/Wegovy or Tirzepatide aka Mounjaro.

These medications are the hottest new obesity treatment and it just so happens that it targets insulin resistance which is HUGE player in women with PCOS. Read my original article on Semaglutide & GLP-1 for PCOS Weight Loss for some more high level info!

Metformin vs. GLP-1 Showdown: Who is the real major weight loss for PCOS player?

Well, while Metformin has been a common medication for PCOS treatment, GLP-1 medications like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are starting to show more promise for weight loss and symptom management.

One reason is that GLP-1 medications have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, which is often a problem for people with PCOS. This means they can help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes, which is a common complication of PCOS.

Another reason is that GLP-1 medications have been shown to help with weight loss, which can be a challenge for people with PCOS. Losing weight can be beneficial for managing symptoms like irregular periods, excessive hair growth, and acne.

While Metformin can also help with insulin resistance and weight loss, it’s been associated with some unpleasant side effects like diarrhea and nausea. GLP-1 medications tend to have fewer side effects and can be more effective for some people.

What Should I Eat to Lose Weight on Semaglutide or GLP-1?

If you’re taking GLP-1 medications for PCOS, you might be wondering what kind of diet is best to follow. Well, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are some general guidelines that can help.

First off, it’s important to focus on nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. These foods can help keep you feeling full and satisfied while providing your body with the fuel it needs to function properly.

When it comes to carbs, aim for complex carbs like sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, and quinoa instead of simple carbs like candy and soda. Complex carbs are digested more slowly, which can help keep your blood sugar levels stable.

You’ll also want to keep an eye on your portion sizes, since overeating can lead to weight gain and other health problems. Try using a food scale or measuring cups to make sure you’re eating the right amount of food.

And, of course, don’t forget to stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water can help keep you feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Intuitive Eating on GLP-1 Medication

Intuitive eating is all about listening to your body’s natural hunger and fullness signals, and eating in a way that feels good and nourishing.

When you’re taking weight loss medication, it can be tempting to focus solely on the numbers on the scale and ignore your body’s natural signals. But intuitive eating can help you tune in to your body’s needs and make healthier choices in the long run.

Plus, Semaglutide and other GLP-1 medications work best when used in combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise. And intuitive eating can help you make healthy choices that are sustainable and enjoyable.

So, why is this so important? Well, when you’re in tune with your body’s needs, you’re more likely to make healthy choices that will support your weight loss goals. You’ll be less likely to overeat or indulge in unhealthy foods, and more likely to choose nutrient-dense options that will keep you feeling full and satisfied.

But remember, everyone’s journey is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to eating. So, if you’re interested in intuitive eating, it’s a good idea to talk to a registered dietitian or healthcare provider to learn more and come up with a personalized plan that works for you.

You Need the Meats! Or at Least Protein on Semaglutide

If you’re taking Semaglutide or another GLP-1 medication, you might be wondering about the importance of protein in your diet. Well, let’s talk about it – protein is a crucial nutrient that can help support weight loss and overall health, especially when combined with GLP-1 medication.

One reason is that protein can help keep you feeling full and satisfied, which can be helpful for managing cravings and overeating. When you’re taking a weight loss medication like Semaglutide, it’s important to make sure you’re getting enough protein to support your weight loss goals.

Plus, protein is essential for building and repairing muscles, which can be especially important if you’re exercising regularly to support your weight loss. By getting enough protein in your diet, you can help your muscles recover and grow stronger after each workout.

Another benefit of protein is that it can help stabilize blood sugar levels. This is important for people with PCOS or type 2 diabetes, since these conditions are often associated with insulin resistance and high blood sugar.

So, how much protein do you need? That can vary depending on factors like your weight, activity level, and health status, but a general guideline is to aim for at least 20-30 grams of protein per meal. This can be found in foods like lean meats, fish, beans, and nuts.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to talk to a registered dietitian or healthcare provider to come up with a personalized eating plan that works for you.

What Workouts Should You Do on Semaglutide for PCOS?

If you’re taking Semaglutide or another GLP-1 medication to manage your PCOS, you might be wondering about the best types of workouts to support your weight loss goals. Well, the good news is that there are many types of exercises that can be effective for weight loss and overall health.

First and foremost, it’s important to find activities that you enjoy and that fit into your lifestyle. That could be anything from jogging or cycling to dancing or swimming. The key is to find something that you look forward to and that you can stick with over the long term.

When it comes to weight loss, it’s important to focus on exercises that get your heart rate up and that challenge your body. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a popular and effective option, since it can help burn calories and build muscle at the same time.

Strength training is also important for building muscle and boosting your metabolism. This can involve using weights, resistance bands, or even just your own body weight. Aim to work all of the major muscle groups, including your legs, arms, chest, back, and core.

And don’t forget about the importance of staying active throughout the day. This could involve taking short walks, using a standing desk, or doing some gentle stretches during the workday.

Of course, it’s important to talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program. They can help you determine the best types of workouts for your individual needs and can provide guidance on how to stay safe and avoid injury.

Overall, the key is to find activities that you enjoy and that you can stick with over the long term. With consistency and dedication, you can achieve your weight loss and health goals while taking Semaglutide or another GLP-1 medication.
