Holy shit. Yup, I am that Mom. Where did the time go? I seriously feel like it was yesterday that I felt like my uterus was legit going to fall out of my body (yes, that’s a real thing). While my body still feels crazy out of whack with the new loose skin and the stretch marks, the mood swings, the exhaustion and the birth control; Logan is THRIVING! So I wanted to give you an update on how he is doing.
If you read our Birth Story, Logan wasn’t little when he came out AT ALL. I still am in disbelief that I pushed out 10lbs 6oz! The more I think about it, the less I remember to be honest. Everything since that day has been pure magic and Amazon prime (I think I broke my account more than once from the influx of essential orders I have made). So I wanted to compile a list of items that have made a huge difference for me, and hopefully for you too whether present or future!
If you haven’t downloaded the Wonder Weeks app as a new Mom, run don’t walk to the app store and download it right now. It is the best $2.99 you will spend in your life. It breaks down their developmental leaps, what to expect from your baby developmentally and what to expect from them in their mood. Logan has been textbook Wonder Weeks. He’s clingy, clusterfeedy but such a happy and active baby. I am a planner so I like to know what to expect, no surprises and no worrying that I am doing something wrong when he is really just going through a growth spurt.
Having a baby has really forced me to just let go and let God.
One thing I have to say is that I have also learned that all those don’ts become do’s for the sake of sleep. Logan is now sleeping WITH us.. This is what I mean by clingy, if he’s not touching me or in my arms, he’s not sleeping at all. (As I am writing this he is nestled next to me on the couch. I tried putting him in his swing and bouncer but he doesn’t transfer well).
Bed sharing, while not textbook, has been done for generations. Your mommy instinct is such a real thing. We use the Snuggle Me Organic to give him a little nest similar to my arms but on his own and it has been a game changer for his sleep. He hates being swaddles but LOVES being cradled. & I am not going to lie, usually around 8am he starts reaching for me with his hands to wake me up with I give him extra cuddles for the next 30 minutes. It melts my heart and I never want that to end (even though I know it will)
Another thing that has come in handy is the Kiinde feeding system if you’re exclusively breastfeeding (EBF); you can pump directly into the bags, pop them in a bottle case and throw on a nipple and BAM! The bags also are great spill proof storage bags for freezing extra stash! They have a warmer that works not only with the bags but other bottles too that make going from freezing to ready super simple (even though I am old school and just pop a mug in the micro and then drop the bag in the hot water).
Also, if you haven’t invested in the Haaka or the BumbleBee knockoff, you need to! It captures your drop let down from the opposite side your babe is latched to while breast feeding. That helps you build a little stash too! For me, I get anywhere from 0.5-3oz per session! Thats major when it comes to a freezer stash especially if you don’t pump and feed on demand like me & his demand is HEAVY. I usually cumulatively feed for 10 hours a day.
One thing that Brian and I are starting to do is read to Logan at least 2-3 nights per week. & he has really started reacting to the pictures on the page! I am obsessed with Baby Lit books because they are durable, easy to read, their alphabet books provide great learning based on historical trends and I mean, a baby version of Wuthering Heights? YES PLEASE! Of course, I incorporate my favorite classics growing up like Green Eggs & Ham, Guess How Much I Love You & the Foot Book. I want him to adopt my passion for reading and adventure so this is one of my favorite things to do.
BATH TIME! He hated it at first but with some subtle changes to the water flow and him getting older, he absolutely loves it! Obsessed with our Blooming Baby Blooming Bath Lotus for our sink, however he is outgrowing our sink so much faster than we anticipated so we are going to transition him to a mini tub and use the lotus in that for extra comfort (I like to provide my baby with a lot of little luxuries).
Overall, Logan is the best baby ever, he is happy, hardly cries unless he is hungry, and is very easy going. We can’t wait to see how his personality develops more and who he takes after. For now he has his Mama’s face but his Daddy’s eyes and mannerisms.
