Self-esteem reflects a person’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. When you have low self esteem that means your mindset on your worth is low and your insecurities start to shine through. While we all go through slumps, here are 9 ways to boost your self esteem!
1 | Compliment Yourself
Sometimes you need to pull out the thesaurus, look up beautiful, worthy, successful etc. and affirm yourself that you ARE all those things. My favorite hack? Find your word, find the core of your insecurity, write all the positive versions of that word in a jar, pull one out every morning and tuck it in your pocket. That thought stick with you throughout the day. For me personally, I have gained a lot of unexplained weight the past few years and I constantly need to remind myself that I am beautiful. So I have made it a point to tuck post its around my house and office to find unexpectedly.
2 | Meditate
Remember that word you found when you complimented yourself? Focus on that word, close your eyes and breath in and out. It is amazing how taking 5, 10, 20, 30+ minutes a day to relax and find your internal zen zone. If you need some meditation hacks, there are plenty of podcasts and youtube videos that can help!
3 | Find Your Now
If you think too far in the past or in the future, it can make it seems like nothing has happened or will happen the way you want and can bring you down. There is nothing that will tank your self worth than FOMO. Be present in your moment. Appreciate your accomplishments in the now and recognize your successes as they come. I always find that my worst stress, anxiety and depression come from thinking too far in the future about how far away my goals.
4 | Do You Boo
The more you focus on yourself, the less you have the opportunity to seek out what others have. I know that for me, whenever I see how successful other bloggers are and how far away I am from achieving that goal, my self esteem takes a nose dive and it makes me question my purpose for having my blog, then it makes it way into other facets of my life making it a toxic self environment. Change your mindset to be more goal oriented and give yourself positive affirmations. It’s not about THEM, at the end of the day it is all YOU boo! So do you!
5 | Judgement Free Zone
Keep your mind judgement free, not only on yourself but for others as well. Positivity is contagious and you get what you give out into the universe. I never judge a book by it’s cover because there can be so much more underneath the surface and you shouldn’t judge yourself by your failures because there is so much more to be had!
6 | Get Your Sweat On
Cardio, weight training, yoga, etc. is a natural self esteem booster! Create a routine that involves fitness. A healthy body = a healthy mind. Plus, it gives you more time to focus on YOU. There is no doubt that when you are insecure with the way your body looks, that you feel insecure overall. Toning up a bit, trimming some inches and revamping your lifestyle to be more wellness focus can help with your self-esteem!
7 | Celebrate Your Accomplishments
Time to start the champagne campaign because you’re one badass babe!! Celebrate your accomplishments! Whether they are small or large, they deserve notability and praise. Whether it is taking to Facebook and tooting your own horn to buying a new outfit because it made you feel fabulous. Praise thyself for every single thing. The more you celebrate yourself the more you will realize how worthy you are!
8 | Find Your Tribe
Surround yourself with quality people and a quality lifestyle and self will follow. I have found when the people I spend time with value me, that I value myself too. There is nothing better than finding people who have the same mindset, have your best interest at heart and can build you up when you’re feeling low to boost your SE.
9 | Splurge
When in doubt, shop it out! While this isn’t the best if your low self esteem stems from body image, there is something that is so satisfying and uplifting when buying something for yourself. I love buying self help books or natural beauty care products when my self esteem is low. A splurge also doesn’t have to be monetary, it can be buying yourself time. Pour yourself some ACV, honey & lemon “tea”, open up “You’re a Badass at Making Money” and change your mindset.
