I have worked from retail to corporate and I have had good bosses and I have had bad bosses, but with all of those experiences I was lucky enough to get amazing advice. Whether it was from my parents, a book, or advice I started giving to myself; these are the 5 tips that have helped me remain authentic, live a passion driven life and be successful!
1 | Slow Down
I have always been someone who likes to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. However, this is not always the most effective way to work. It leads to burn out and errors. How do I slow down my inner Tasmanian devil? Time blocking. I know I know, sometimes you need to just power through BUT it’s not the best way. Giving yourself 30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours tops to work on a project is actually more efficient. I love doing the 1 hour ON then 20 minutes OFF approach to time blocking. Also, make sure you PLAN your time blocks. Write down the goal of your hour and make sure you strictly focus on that goal; don’t check emails, don’t scroll Facebook, JUST WORK but take your time. Make sure you’re producing quality content/thoughts.
If you’re in the market to purchase a time block tool, this is one that I love from Amazon.
2 | Enjoy the journey, it makes the destination that much sweeter
If you’re anything like me you require INSTANT gratification. You don’t want it tomorrow, you don’t want it in 2 years, YOU WANT IT NOW! This was completely a mental mindset I had to readjust after starting my blog. I was hoping to hit 1k views a day, be promoting brands and my business all over the place. But that’s not how this works. Chances are you won’t go viral in your first 30 days, chances are you won’t have 10k social media followers in 6 months. But guess what? THATS OKAY! Building a genuine audience, producing high quality content and being able to be authentic is way more gratifying than any of that! Enjoy your journey. Enjoy the small moments when you get the email that you inspired someone that day. Enjoy every opportunity you get to share your message, your views, your favorite products, etc. ENJOY IT. SAVOR IT. LIVE FOR IT. Then when the day comes where you do hit 1k views a day, you secure that sale you’ve been pitching for months, you see the first signs of ab definition after doing that fitness program; it will be so much sweeter!!
3 | Struggling is an essential part of your 20’s
I know everyone has heard the phrase, “the struggle is real”. But really though, the struggle completely is! I mean student loans by themselves is the thing of millennial nightmares. You thought The Conjuring was scary, step aside Warrens, Fed Loan Services has made an appearance. And that bitch, is fucking scary! Add that with a sprinkle of unrealistically high rent rates, your shitty pay rate that doesn’t remotely match your cost of living, and the fact all that Top Ramen is making you gain the REAL LIFE 30; you’re a mess! But guess what? ITS OKAY TO BE A MESS. Repeat after me, “It is okay to only have $2.33 in my bank account as long as I am working towards my goals”. Okay, maybe not $2.33 but we’ve all been there in our 20’s (unless you’re a freak of nature with insane luck and good fortune, if you are, sprinkle that juju to the Bossfidence readers). The struggle is part of the journey and the journey will set you free. Ever heard of your parents saying their ‘back in my day’ stories? Yeah, well this is yours!
4 | Double, Triple and Quadruple Check Your Work
Nothing tanks your credibility than not proof reading your work. This dials into tip one of slowing down. Honestly, I still do it even though I tell myself not to; its my weakness and I admit that shit. Read through emails before hitting send, make sure you spell peoples names correctly (pet peeve, my names Ashley, its generic and basic AF), make sure the numbers, percentages, stats are all correct. So many steps depending on your business to take to ensure that you are THE BEST and stay the best! It all starts here!
5 | Your Passions Not Showing
Ever been really good at something but your heart just wasn’t in it? Yeah? Did you know that everyone around you can tell that you fucking hate it? THEY CAN! There is nothing, and I mean nothing worse than having lackluster passion for what you’re doing. Just because it fits your skill set, just because it pays the bills; if it doesn’t make you happy happy joy joy then it’s not for you! I mean, you shouldn’t be dreading heading into the office, you shouldn’t be waiting for 5PM to roll around so you can go home and you sure as hell should never confuse paychecks with passion. Yes, paying your bills is essential to survival, I get it, I have been there. But at what cost. Cost you might ask? YES, your MENTAL and EMOTIONAL cost. Having a lack of passion for something you do 40+ hours a week will take an emotional and mental toll on your soul. You will burn out, you will have resentment, you won’t be at your best, you will affect the team dynamic you’re in and it won’t ever work out to your benefit in the end!
Here are some of my favorite books that have really helped me expand my success mindset.
